Ranchera Pines is a small community in the foothills north of Redding, California. Years ago this was the location of Summit City, today Summit City and Ranchera Pines is included in the City of Shasta Lake.
The City of Shasta Lake (prior to incorporation it was known as Central Valley) is a city in Shasta County, California, United States. It is the closest settlement to Shasta Dam and Shasta Lake reservoir, which are popular tourist destinations. The population was 10,164 at the 2010 census, up from 9,008 at the 2000 census.
Shasta Lake formed with the incorporation of five small communities named Central Valley, Toyon, Project City, Pine Grove, and Summit City, all of which came about with the beginning of construction of Shasta Dam in 1938. Project City was built at the intersection of Highway 99 and Shasta Dam Boulevard, a larger Central Valley at a midpoint on Shasta Dam Blvd., Summit City at the intersection of Shasta Dam Blvd. and Lake Blvd., and Pine Grove at what today is the intersection of I-5 and Pine Grove Ave.
There are number of Huell Howser videos from our area:
"California's Gold" with a tour of Shasta Dam. In this adventure, Huell and Luis get a behind the scenes look at this engineering marvel. Miles of tunnels and millions of gallons of water make for an exciting day.
"California's Golden Parks" visits Shasta City, located six miles west of Redding. During the California gold rush it was the “Queen City” of California’s northern mining district prospering from 1850-1890.
"Californias Communities" visits the city of Redding in Northern California is a vibrant community that has embraced its rich history and also looked into to the future.
"California’s Golden Parks" attends the annual Return of the Salmon Festival in Shasta County to see huge numbers of fall Chinook Salmon coming up river to spawn.
"California's Water" takes a look at the various ways that California stores its water and visits the resevoir at Shasta Dam.
“California’s Gold" visits the historic lumber and railroad town of McCloud, located at the foot of Mt. Shasta, California’s second highest mountain.
“California’s Gold” salutes the railroads by “riding the rails.” Huell heads to McCloud near Mount Shasta to attend a weekend outing sponsored by a group of people who restore the motorized “speeders” used by railroad workers for maintenance and track inspection. The group travels by caravan on tracks through some of the most beautiful countryside in our state.
